Doiley
OK I need some "opinions" here !!!!!!! Please !!!
I made this doiley for my Niece for her Bridal Shower... I wanted to get a nice glass tray with a glass that I could remove and put the doiley under but I could find no such thing....
Soooooooo I bought this "frame thing" It actually has a 2 inch wide thickness between the glass and so I put a piece of Green Velour in it and then the Doiley...
It is mainly for the purpose of " presenting" the doiley so that you can see it properly...
I really want her to take it out and use the doiley on a table and the frame for some photos...
I just did not want to put the doiley in a plain box to give it to her...
What do you think ?? Does it look OK ? Is it a good idea? Or should I take it out ..put it in a box and give it to her that way ????
I just want it to look nice when I give it to her at the Shower !!!

The doily is really beautiful and I like the way it looks in the frame. I would give it to her that way.
The yarn for the shawl looks nice and $2.- for 10 is a real good deal :-).

I replied to the list. They will love it no matter how it is presented! :o) K. Anne
It's just beautiful. I like the tray. What a different and neat idea. She'll love it.
I'll bet she may want to use it in the frame and hang it on the wall if it is presented that way...but what is wrong with that? It's beautiful in the frame.
Penny, I like the idea of it being in a glass frame...she has an option then of hanging it on a wall or, like you said, taking it out and using it and then using the frame for pics. Quite frankly if I received it that way, it would get hung in a very special spot on the wall.
I will send in to activeknitters a couple of pics of what my Mother-in-law made me...I mounted them on velvet and hung them. Thanks for sharing. *hugs* ~Betty
I think the doily presented in the frame looks beautiful!
I would hang it on the wall but usisng the frame for photos and using the doily as a table top is an other option the bride will have to pick...
Another idea would be a keepsake box that you can find in craft stores. It is pretty deep and comes in different sizes, so you could put the doily in the back of the box with the velour as background and add souvenirs from the wedding after the ceremony in front and around the doily, making a nice Memory Display of that very special day... Do you see what I mean?
But that would be a different purpose for the doily you want to be a doily...
You did a wonderful job! 2 thumbs up up up!!! ;)

Penny -- I dreamed about an funny (or silly) idea to give away your doily for your niece's wedding!
If you don't want to give it in a frame that is too small for it (you have to tuck the edges) and I wouldn't like that either, I thought you could roll the doily around a wood roll for making pastry (we call that "rouleau a patisserie" in french). I don't know in the US but in France this ustensile is caricaturally synonym of marriage fights (that is the funny side of the gift) Usually (especially in cartoons or comics) the woman is running after her Husband holding a "rouleau a patisserie" for beating him! LOL
More seriously, in the 20s, in France, the Fiance gave this important kitchen ustensile as a gift to his Fiancee during the fiancailles ceremony... (!!!)
Couldn't do that nowadays, huh? LOL
Then, you could wrap the whole thing as a big long candy with colored or irise transparent celophan paper and put some ribbons at each end... Do you see what I mean?
It look really great in my dream! LOL... Oh boy! I wish I could show you here...
Now, if you find this idea too silly, an empty paper towel cardbox center would do it too...
You could cut it for matching the width of your doily and adding a ribbon or pinning it in the middle to maintain it... the wrap it in the cellophan paper like mentionned earlier...
As you said, you could then give your frame as another gift for your niece...
