My First square for The Lily Chin Heirloom Reversible Cable Blanket..
I saw her working on this blanket on Knitty Gritty a few weeks ago and loved it..
I am using different colors of Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece that I had in my stash.... two of them were from a swap... :)

It is working up REALLY SOFT and the reversible cables are fantastic... They look and feel so cuddly !!!
I think this will be a Wonderful Blanket when I finish it...
Its the first time I have started off with a crochet chain cast on... It will be pulled out to make the joining of the squares easier... I Think :)
I know I will get the first three squares done right away because I want to see each of the colors worked up... Lets hope I can stay on a roll and do the entire blanket before I get bored... :)

I am making this blanket which I am embroidering all different Little Girls on it.. I made each one with a different color hair... The Little redhead looks so cute !!
The backing will be done with this fabric that I have .. it says Grandma in all different languages on it... Very Cute !!
Anyway ... What I wanted to show you was another use for the Ball Winders.....
The pearl cotton that I am using comes in a sort of small skein..it was getting all tangled up.. so I cut up little sleeves from a saran wrap cardboard roll and put it on my winder..... then I wound the pearl cotton on it....... Its great now !!! No More Tangles !!!

I decide to "play" around with some more felting so I did it the easy way.. without knitting it first.. :)

So I bought this sweater at a garage sale for 50 cents...
I cut off the sleeves and sewed it up ..then make some straps with the ribbing and the neckline...

Looks good this way but I wanted to see it felted...

So... Here is the result...

All felted and drying !!!

Now I'll just make a little liner for the inside !!

Boy.. That was alot faster then knitting it first !!! :)

I bought these shower curtain rings last week because Bob said he wanted them for something...
(You can get a bunch for $1.00 in the dollar store )

Well.. It turns out that he just wanted one... so I had them sitting on the table where I was knitting and while doing this sweater I needed another stitch holder so being this ring was so handy.. I used it.. and it worked fine..
So there you go... An inexpensive stitch holder... LOL

This is a sweater that I started last week at my knitting group.....I am finally using the Debbie Bliss Cotton Cashmere Yarn which I bought last year at a yarn sale... Its really a very pretty sage green and I am triming it with a cream color..
I don't have a pattern for this one I am just using symetics and doing a wide rib pattern with a fancy pleated ruffle on the bottom and the sleeves... So far.. so good ! This one is also for My GD Paige !

My Little Red Felted Hat & Shoes !!!!

I had left over yarn from the Patons Wool and wanted to make something else... So this is what I came up with..... I didn't have a pattern for a little hat so I started with a BIG one and slowly did some decreases here and there and there and here until I came up with what I thought was a good enough size to be Shrunk ... Oh.. I mean " Felted " :)
Then I rolled up the brim and crimped the edges like an Apple Pie and Here is The result !!!!
Its still drying and its not sunny the past two days so it will take a while for it to dry enought so I can pack it up and mail it to California.....
Now I STILL have a bit more yarn left... Hummmmm.. What can I make next ???
I was never a Big Fan of Felting but I gotta tell ya.... I really love these two items.....
And like the shoes... I did felt the hat by hand in the same way... It did not tke long at all..

So Sweet !!!

I recieved this email from My Favorite New York neighbor today and I just wanted to share it with you... As you all know.. we are in Florida for the Winter...
Ryan is the little boy who lives next door to us in New York.. He is three years old.....
This is the email from his Grandma...... :)
-------------------------------------------------------
Just had to tell you what Ryan said:tonight
I brought Ryan home a Hostess Snowball for dessert and of course he asked "why" it was called that "cause it looks just like a snowball I told him. and when/if we get snow we'll go outside and make lots of snowballs. We then went on to talk about other things to do in the Winter like building snowmen, riding on sled , drinking hot chocolate......
Then I asked him "so what happens in the Spring?"
And Ryans says " BOB AND PENNY COME HOME FROM FLORIDA"

we all had a good laugh !!! see we do miss you in NY

I received this Request from My Daughter as you all know is anxiously STILL waiting for her Baby from China...

Mom ......I need some more booties sent to me. Can you put out another post. Here's the reason...
As some of you may know as it's been a public news issue the past month:
China is putting forth new rules for applicants applying this year. Due to the fact that they have so many more applicants then babies "supply and demand" the time frames have increased to 24-36 months from start to finish. Its a long and frustrating wait...You may think there's no way but it is true. There are hundreds of orphanages in China that are not open to the international adoption program therefore many babies are there waiting to be adopted by the Chinese. Unfortunately with all these babies there is still a long waiting list. The Chinese that are adopting babies for themselves just look for a certain type of baby-certain features etc. It's nothing bad, it's just the way the culture is in China. Looks are #1 for women.
So I'd like to give my bootie collection to the orphanages that are domestic within China only. It just makes sense. They have more little babies waiting around then mine does and those little babies really need things .. They don't have very much..Most of the money for adoptions go to the Government and not to the orphanages.. :(
So PLEASE send more booties. They don't have to be fancy just made with love. We don't plan on traveling to China for several months so there's plenty of time.
Thank You for any that you can do..
Love April.. who is Still waiting for her China Baby...
Please email My Mom for my mailing address; peneloercola@aol.com

I was just reminded by a friend ( Barbara) not to use white yarn... They use the color white in China for Mourning......

" Little Penny" can Fill Grandmas Shoes :)
Here are the Before and After Photos of My Little Shoes :) ....... Hope you can all see these photos because I had to send them a different way.. I don't know whats up with Blogger...

This was my First experience with "felting"or as My Daughter April said.... The first time I used " Shrinky Dink Yarn" :).......and I must say I did enjoy watching the process...
I first put them in a pail in the tub with a teaspoon of Euculan.. which I have to tell you smells absolutely wonderful ! Then I used a plunger to agitate the water... I did this for several minutes and still no shrinkage??? hum??? So I changed the water and did it hot again.... kept plunging....
Then I decided to add some boiled kettle water and kept plunging... Now I could see it starting to shrink... I then remembered someone saying to rub the item while in the water and this is when I could see the Big felting really happening... So I would reccomend that you rub the item while it is in the water... Soon I had these sweet little shoes .. I put them in cold water to stop the shrinking and shaped them and put plastic supermarket bag in each to hold the shape while they were drying... After a while I took out the bags and now they are outside finishing up the drying.. :)
It was a Fun Experience .. Not only did I get these Little Shoes but I think I got some muscles in my arms from all that plunging :) Posted by Picasa
Sorry.. I forgot to post the pattern... I got in in Donna Koolers Encyclopedia of Knitting and I used Patons 100% Wool Yarn.. I REALLY loved working with this yarn but I would be afraid to use it for anything other than felting because of the shrinkage... Maybe if the item was washed by hand it would be OK but I am way to lazy to do that :)
