Computers and Cars

Just HadTo Share This -----------

Subject: Bill Gates vs GM
For all of us who feel only the deepest love and affection for the way computers have enhanced our lives, read on.

At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated, "If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon".

In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release stating: If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics (and I just love this part):

1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash twice a day.
2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car.
3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull over to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason you would simply accept this.
4. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.
5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive -- but would run on only five percent of the roads.
6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single "This Car Has Performed An Illegal Operation" warning light.
7. The airbag system would ask "Are you sure?" before deploying.
8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.
9. Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.
10. You'd have to press the "Start" button to turn the engine off.
So Here is Tha Mystery Project that I showed you a few days ago.. I managed to fit it into my Busy Knitting schedule and get it finished!!!

I am about to start a New Project !!!
Its the Pinwheel Sweater for My Grandaughter..
April likes the colors in the origional pattern so these are what I came up with.....
Some are Woolease.. Some are Caron SS.. and Some are Vanna's Choice....
The last two tones I am not sure which to use .. The one I have doubled??? Should I use the bottom color or the top color???OR the bottom and the top color and NOT the last color???
Humm??? Decisions ..decisions.. Thats the hardest part about knitting!!! Trying to make up my mind on the colors that I want!!!!
The pattern calls for seven colors but I think that is too many colors...
Makes it Too Busy!!!! So I am going down to six colors... OR should I just do five colors!! Oh Geeze !!!
Now I can't Decide!!!!! ??????
#$%@&^%$*!!!!! My Brain is scrambled !!!

Lacy Dress

The other day I started playing with this
yarn that I have had for quite a while... I didn't know What it wanted to be... So I started knitting a sort of "skirt".. Then I figured that I had enough yarn left to make some sort of top part to it... So I did this...
It really came out better than I expected !!! The yarn is a really cool pink/red/white.. with slubs of colors in it.. Like light blue..yellow..pink....
Anyhow... The Dress is so light and squishie.. It is very lacy looking and should be adorable on Samantha with a onesie and leggings or something!!!
I did a close up so you could see the "Lacy" look of it..
I have no pattern for it and did not follow any other pattern.. I just kept knitting!!!! :)
I just mailed it off to April and I can't wait to see if she liked it !!!

Beaded Sweater

The Saga of The Beaded Sweater............ Did you say "GAUGE" ??
When in Florida last winter I worked on this Sweater.. I knitted in hundreds of beads.. They are on the front and the whole back.. I tried several photo shots but can't seem to get the beads to show... But they are in the middle of each purl design...
Anyhow... Because I am allergic to "gauges"... I did not do any ...As usual !!!
The Sweater is in Debbie Bliss Special knits and was started out to be for my 4 Year old Grandaughter"Paige".......
BUT it GREW as I knitted it because I guess my yarn choice was the wrong gauge for the pattern ...... Who Knew ???

I then decided it would be for my 8 year old Grandaughter "Natalie".... After doing one sleeve I ran out of the yarn and the yarn shop where I could only get it was in NY.. So I waited until the Summer when I got back here and purchased another skein...
Its called BABY..... Well... I now decided that the sleeve I already made was too short so I lenghtened it and made it wider.....as I did with the second sleeve............. OK.. ...So NOW Its done, Right???...... WRONG..... NOW I decided that it was too short for the 8 Year old "Natalie" ... Soooooooooooo... I picked up on the bottom and added about 3 inches... See that "Design Feature" I put at the bottom??? No.. Lets not call it an error, Huh !......... Its My Design Feature.. ...All Right!!!!

So There is the Sweater and I will mail it off to Buffalo and HOPE that after all that work and beading it will fit " Someone"..
Will I do a GAUGE for the next Sweater??? Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh Probably NOT !!!!!

Well.. I don't know what happened but I posted this the other day and now it seems to have disappeared...
So Here we are Again...
This Little Cutie is from Anny Blatt Numero ll... So thats either a Roman number 2 or a Number 11 ????
I copied this pattern from the book before I left Florida with plans on making it... Hooray... I finally did another one of my "kits" ..
You know.. The ones I put together to take here to NY with me... I copy the pattern and put it and the yarn in a zippered sweater bag and there is one Kit... I brought about 12 of them here with me and this is the third one I have done... Now Thats because I keep going to yarn sales and buying MORE YARN and then knitting with that!!!!
So..I guess I had better dig into my kits and do another one because soon it will be time to go Siuth again and I don't want to bring them all back unfinished :)
Now I know I am going to get emails asking what pattern this is .. For some reason everyone always misses where I post the pattern....
The pattern is posted in the second sentence :)
I used Lion Brands baby Soft for the Sweater and it is a size 12 months...
Samantha is now over 12 pounds at 3 months old so I have to make 12 months and larger for her now :)

My Friend Mary emailed this to me today and I JUST Had To Share it With You !!!!
I hope it gives you a Laugh too!!!
-------------------------------------------------------------------

When you have to visit a public bathroom, you usually find a line of women, so you smile politely and take your place. Once it's your turn, you check for feet under the stall doors. Every stall is occupied.
Finally, a door opens and you dash in, nearly knocking down the woman leaving the stall. You get in to find the door won't latch. It doesn't matter, the wait has been so long you are about to wet your pants! The dispenser for the modern "seat covers" (invented by someone's Mom, no doubt) is handy, but empty. You woul d hang your purse on the door hook, if there was one, but there isn't - so you carefully, but quickly drape it around your neck, (Mom would turn over in her grave if you put it on the FLOOR!), yank down your pants, and assume " The Stance." In this position your aging, toneless thigh muscles begin to shake. You'd love to sit down, but you certainly hadn't taken time to wipe the seat or lay toilet paper on it, so you hold "The Stance."

To take your mind off your trembling thighs, you reach for what you discover to be the empty toilet paper dispenser. In your mind, you can hear your mother's voice saying, "Honey, if you had tried to clean the seat, you would have KNOWN there was no toilet paper!" Your thighs shake more. You remember the tiny tissue that you blew your nose on yesterday - the one that's still in your purse. (Oh yeah, the purse around your neck, that now, you have to hold up trying not to strangle yourself at the same time). That would have to do. You crumple it in the puffiest way possible. It's still smaller than your thumbnail .
Someone pushes your door open because the latch doesn't work. The door hits your purse, which is hanging around your neck in front of your chest, and you and your purse topple backward against the tank of the toilet. "Occupied!" you scream, as you reach for the door, dropping your precious, tiny, crumpled tissue in a puddle on the floor, lose your footing altogether, and slide down directly onto the TOILET SEAT. It is wet of course. You bolt up, knowing all too well that it 's too late. Your bare bottom has made contact with every imaginable germ and life form on the uncovered seat because YOU never laid down toilet paper - not that there was any, even if you had taken time to try. You know that your mother would be utterly appalled if she knew, because, you're certain her bare bottom never touched a public toilet seat because, frankly, dear, "You just don't KNOW what kind of diseases you could get."
By this time, the automatic sensor on the back of the toilet is so confused that it flushes, propelling a stream of water like a fire hose against the inside of the bowl that sprays a fine mist of water that covers your butt a nd runs down your legs and into your shoes. The flush somehow sucks everything down with s u ch force that you grab onto the empty toilet paper dispenser for fear of being dragged in too. At this point, you give up. You're soaked by the spewing water and the wet toilet seat. You're exhausted. You try to wipe with a gum wrapper you found in your pocket and then slink out inconspicuously to the sinks.
You can't figure out how to operate the faucets with the automatic sensors, so you wipe your hands with spit and a dry paper towel and walk past the line of women still waiting. You are no longer able to smile politely to them.
A kind soul at the very end of the line points out a piece of toilet paper trailing from your shoe. (Where was that when you NEEDED it??) You yank the paper from your shoe, plunk it in the woman's hand and tell her warmly, "Here, you just might need this."
As you exit, you spot your hubby, who has long since entered, used, and left the men's restroom. Annoyed, he asks, "What took you so long, and why is your purse hanging around your neck?" This is dedicated to women everywhere who deal with a public restrooms (rest??? you've GOT to be kidding!!). It finally explains to the men what really does take us so long. It also answers their other commonly asked questions about why women go to the restroom in pairs. It's so the other gal can hold the door, hang onto your purse and hand you Kleenex under the door!
This HAD to be written by a woman! No one else could describe it so accurately!
Oh Boy !!! Look what I got in The Mail......
Looks like this could be trouble for me....LOL

OK Dorethea..... The sale is next week !!!!

Shall we go " Browse" around... <>

So What have I been doing???
This morning I went for an eye exam because I need new glasses... Which is always a big decision for me because I never know what kind of glasses I want.. I have tried progressives several times and last time I put them on I drove right over the curb... Not A Good Thing!!! I just could not get used to them... Most of my glasses end up stuck hidden away because they are never right and I use the dollar store glasses... LOTS of them.... Now it seems I really need distance so I have to try something... I decided to go for the bifocal again and see if they work for me THIS time!!!... I also got my eyes dialated and it was a good thing I had Bob with me because I could not see very well for the next few hours.. I know I would not have been able to drive all the way home... (Now I have a headache)
So next week I'll let you know HOW My NEW Specks are working out!!! :)

In the afternoon I ran to the Post office with my box of yarn that I am trading with Terri in Brooklyn for different yarn... :)

Then I stopped at the Library searching for this book that was recommended to me by a fellow Blogger... ummm??? "Handknit"I think it is or something like that... Amazingly I DID find it at our local library... I read about 20 pages and it is good...
My Book Report will be in soon!!!
So... Since many of you ask.... Do I do anything but knit??????
See... YES I do... Sometimes I Read !!! :)

There is a Huge Rock near a gravel pit on HWY. 25 in rural Iowa...
For generations, kids have painted slogans, names, and obscenities on This Rock, changing its character many times.
A few months back.. The Rock received its latest paint job... and since then it has been left completely undisturbed..
I imagine that it is quite an impressive sight to see....
The Flag looks like it is drapped over the Rock but it is not.. It is also painted on...

Thank You ....
" God Bless America"
and
"Our Soldiers and Vets"
